There's another virus that has infected at least 26 million Americans across the country and killed at least 14, people this season alone. It's not a new pandemic -- it's influenza. The flu season, which began September 29, is projected to be one of the worst in a decadeaccording to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. At leastpeople have been hospitalized with complications from the flu, and that number is predicted to climb as flu activity swirls.
The flu is a constant in Americans' lives. It's that familiarity that makes it more dangerous to underestimate, said Dr. Flu blinds 4-year-old girl in Iowa Even the low-end estimate of deaths each year is startling, Savoy said: The Centers for Disease Control predicts at least 12, people will die from the flu in the US every year. In the flu season, as many as 61, people died, and 45 million were sickened. In the season so far, at least 26 million people in the US have gotten the flu and at least 14, people have died from it, including at least 92 children.
Flu activity has been widespread in nearly every region, with high levels of activity in 48 states and Puerto Rico, the CDC reported this week. Savoy, who also serves on the American Academy of Family Physician's board of directors, said the novelty of emerging infections can overshadow the flu. People are less panicked about the flu because healthcare providers "appear to have control" over the infection.
Nathan Chomilo, an adjunct assistant professor of pediatrics at University of Minnesota Medical School, said that the commonness of the flu often underplays its severity, but people should take it seriously. A teen's final days with the flu. The flu becomes dangerous when secondary infections emerge, the result of an already weakened immune system. Bacterial and viral infections compound the flu's symptoms. People with chronic illnesses are also at a heightened risk for flu complications.
Those complications include pneumonia, inflammation in the heart and brain and organ failure -- which, in some cases, can be fatal. Chomilo, an internist and pediatrician for Park Nicollet Health Services, said this flu season has been one of the worst his Minnesota practice has seen since the H1N1 virus outbreak in Some of his patients, healthy adults in their 30s, have been sent to the Intensive Care Unit, relying on ventilators, due to flu complications.
Influenza is tricky because the virus changes every year.In the wake of the coronavirusstreaming platform Discord is temporarily upping the limit on its Go Live service to 50 people at a time.
In a blog postthe company said that it recognized that people in areas hit by the virus are using Discord to "keep in touch and stay on track with their everyday lives, from attending classes remotely to working from home," and that it wanted to find a way to help. The Go Live feature, which usually supports up to 10 users, is designed to lets gamers stream directly to other people alongside video chat and screen share options.
As Discord notes, however, it's now being used in a variety of ways away from gaming, and is proving particularly useful in the face of lockdowns and quarantines. It's not clear how long the expanded limit will be in place for, although the company does say that it anticipates a surge in demand for Go Live, and "hopes you'll be patient if you happen to encounter any performance issues. As security companies shore up defenses against malware distribution and communication methods, malware developers and cyber threat actors have to evolve their tactics by abusing other services.
Such is the case with the Discord chat service, which has been abused by malware developers for years. Below we take a look at three ways that Discord is being used; as a malware hosting and distribution service, a malware communications server, and through client modifications.
While Discord is designed as a chat service, it allows members to upload files to a chat channel so that others can download them. Users can then right-click on an uploaded file and select the "Copy link" option to get a URL that can be shared with others, even non-Discord users, in order to download the file.
For example, in the image above I uploaded the Windows Calculator calc. As you can see this file is hosted on Discord's CDN, but can be shared with anyone. This means that even though the file is deleted in the chat, it is not actually deleted from the Discord CDN. This feature is being used by malware developers as an easy and anonymous way to distribute infections. The Discord Incident
While Discord sometimes displays warnings at download pages when malicious files are reported, in our tests most malicious downloads are not flagged. The good news is that Discord does perform some sort of file scanning or blocking of malicious files, as when I tried to upload a sample of the DarkComet RAT found by JayTHL with 65 detections on VirusTotal, Discord would not allow the file to be uploaded. With that said, that file is already present on Discord to this day.
This means that they do not scan previously uploaded files on their CDN to take advantage of updated virus definitions or known malware. Discord contains a feature called webhooks that allows websites or external applications to send messages to a Discord channel.
When creating webhooks, the server owner will be given a special URL that is used with the Discord API to send messages to the specified channel. Like all useful features, developers of malware such as ransomware, information-stealing Trojans, RATs, and more can abuse webhooks to send information to the attacker when a user is infected.
This feature is also commonly used by malware that steals victim's Discord tokens, which can then be used by the attacker to login as that particular Discord user.
This is exactly what happened in a recent malware that modified the Discord JS files in order to steal Discord tokens and other information about the victim and send it to the attacker via a webhook.Having one of the best antivirus packages installed on your PC or laptop remains a necessity - particularly in light of world events.

Unfortunately, unfair individuals can abuse the platform for their own malicious deeds: tamper with Discord's client, create malicious servers, and distribute phishing messages that are aimed to harm users.
In other words, the app itself is very reputable and useful, and the term Discord virus is used to describe malicious activities initiated by third-party sources. When abused, victims can be infected with RATs, worms, backdoors, and other malware, as well as disclose sensitive information, resulting in online banking, and other user account compromise.
As the platform is often used by the gaming community, game-related cheats, currency generators, and hacking activities are also often promoted, infecting scam victims with Discord virus in the process. Cybercriminals are also known to alter the functions of the Discord installer in a way that allows them to perform malicious activities on the infected machine.
Essentially, they modify the original installer and insert the malicious payload into it, which results in a Discord virus installation to unsuspecting users. Typically, such fake client installers are propagated via spoofing sites, torrents, and other shade places on the internet.
Unfortunately, users are rarely aware of malicious activity on their devices, as they believe that they installed a legitimate version of the app. Spidey Bot malware spreading through Discord was the more recent version of malware targeting million users all over the world. Hoaxes about Discord viruses are also prevalent on this VoIP app. Discord bots are also known to be great additions to various servers used by many, as they allow different functionality via commands that can be launched by regular users or server admins.
Nevertheless, some bots were rumored to be causes of information stealing and hacking by using Discord — one of such cases was started by the user Cia and the KawaiiBot. When it comes to social media platforms or applications, malicious actors always target users with scams and phishing attacks.
Discord is no exception. For years, since the initial release of this social network, it was known that various malicious DMs Direct Messages are spreading, aiming to infect unsuspecting victims with Discord virus. These malicious applications are installed with users' permission, although victims are not aware of it typically phishing techniques are used to make the user click on malicious links or attachments.
As soon as malware downloaded via Discord is settled, it grants itself administrative rights, and the host system is used to distribute the RAT even further — that is how a botnet is established.
All the viruses mentioned above are capable of various malicious activities on the targeted PC, including monitoring the behavior of the victim, recording keystrokes, taking screenshots, using the webcam to record the video, formatting drives, starting or shutting down various system processes, as well as installing additional malicious files on the system.
Before that happens, users are advised to regularly scan their machines using security software and take care of Discord virus removal if it was detected on the device.President Donald Trump on Monday said he planned to pull the U. Discord relaxes streaming limits during coronavirus outbreak
Current guidance instructs Americans across the country to avoid gatherings of more than 10 people; work or attend school from home whenever possible; and abstain from eating or drinking at bars, restaurants and food courts.
But in more than a dozen states with higher concentrations of cases, governors have issued mandatory shelter-in-place directives or ordered all non-essential businesses closed. They also maintain that the fallout will be worse if the White House declares victory now, only to have the virus resurface in coming weeks or months. But Trump went back and forth in his press briefing, arguing that he could reopen the country while keeping an eye on the most at-risk populations, including the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.
The current guidance has contributed to a precipitous drop in economic activity. Unemployment claims are surging across the nation, and forecasters are predicting a depression-level decline in second-quarter GDP. Even more-stringent directives issued by state and local authorities, such as large-scale shelter-in-place orders, have similarly spooked financial markets and provoked fears of an imminent recession.
Trump has repeatedly sought to reassure Americans that the economy will bounce back swiftly once the virus abates. But his own health experts remain unsure of when that will be, and in the meantime both Congress and the Federal Reserve have scrambled to cushion the blow to the economy, responses that Trump cheered on Monday.
Already, there are more than 43, confirmed cases of coronavirus across all 50 states and at least dead, according to a Johns Hopkins University database.
Because of limited testing capacity, experts agree the actual number of positive cases is much higher. Still, Trump leaned on several dubious arguments to support his position.
He fell back on a widely panned comparison between the fatality rates of coronavirus and the common flu, the latter of which can kill tens of thousands of Americans a year. He also repeated a similarly criticized comparison of coronavirus to the number of Americans killed in car crashes annually. Experts have called both attempts to draw parallels with coronavirus instances of false equivalency.
Then Trump asserted that economic downturns could be fatal in their own right. Trump began broadcasting his growing impatience with public health measures meant to combat the pandemic — even as public health officials have offered contradictory forecasts — on Twitter over the weekend, a shift that continued throughout the day on Monday.
Adams is one of a number of senior administration officials who have argued that social-distancing recommendations will need to be sustained, not slackened, to curb the swift spread of Covid, and cautioned that its threat to Americans would last longer than initially thought. And right now, there are not enough people out there who are taking this seriously. Asked whether any doctors had backed his plan to ease social-distancing restrictions, Trump appeared to contend that it was imprudent to leave decisions that could have an economic impact solely up to scientists.
You know, we can't do that and you can't do that with the country, especially the number one economy anywhere in the world by far. Number one economy in the world.
You can't do that. While he said the advice of Dr. We have to keep it that way. Fauci, for his part, offered an inconclusive response when asked on Friday how long Americans would have to remain socially distant.
Trump told reporters that Fauci was in a private meeting of the task force. Marc Lipsitch, an epidemiology professor at the Harvard T.Security experts have noticed that hackers distribute malware via the free VoIP application Discord used by computer gamers, every user is advised to be careful. Security experts have discovered that the computer criminals are becoming more persistent in their attempts to deliver malware to unsuspecting victims.
One of the latest interesting cases that was identified is distribution via the free VoIP application designed for gamers Discord. The service has been found to be used by the hackers to deliver remote access Trojans to the gamers.
This was done via the chat servers that are an integral part of the application. Experts from Symantec have also discovered that Discord has also been used for another type of criminal activity — black market groups that sell malware or stolen account credentials. The service quickly responded by removing the malicious files from the locations where they were distributed — mainly the chat channels of the VoIP servers. In addition they have added a new virus scanning feature that runs on the backend automatically when the user uploads an executable or an archive file.
This incident is just one example of how computer criminals use various aggressive methods to spread malware to unsuspecting users. The viruses are presented through the chat channels as malicious users that trick the users using various social engineering tricks. This is actually a quite efficient way as many users do not suspect that malware can be spread through this medium. Using malware as bait has been a popular tactic that has been used with other services, however only recently we have seen reports that the hackers target Discord.
Other popular places include private message spam on Xbox Live and group chat in Twitch streams. Scammers use various payloads to deliver the dangerous files — directly linking to infected users or to downloaders. The most common scenarios include fake driver downloads that promise to boost the computer performance, cheat codes and trainers to manipulate the game difficulty and other related software. The Discord service allows gamers to use a secure all-in-one voice and text chat solution that works on both the desktop and the phone.
